He attended Overland High School in Aurora, Colorado where he lettered two years in varsity lacrosse and one-year varsity American football. Then, he joined Whittier College, and later, he made his transfer to the University of Colorado to play football full-time where he redshirted his first season.

Following college, he went undrafted in the 2006 NFL Draft. However, he would be signed by the Buffalo Bills to their practice squad but then got released from the team before starting the regular season alongside the Arena Football League‘s Utah Blaze. Then, he retired from the sport(football) in 2007.

After retiring from football, he trained in boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu for only six months. On 13 June 2008, he made his first fight victory against Jay Lester from total knockout out (TKO) punches. Likewise, in 2009, he made two victory fights against Johny Curtis and Alex Rozman Brendan. However, on 5 December 2009, he lost against Roy Nelson from knock-out punches. Similarly, he lost both his matches against Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne on 14 June 2014 and 6 December 2014 before retiring from the MMA ring.
